Vice Provost

Lila McDowell Carlsen assumed the role of vice provost in March 2025. Carlsen previously served as interim vice provost beginning in 2023, where she oversaw the Office of Research, Grants, and Foundation Relations and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. From 2018 to 2023, she served as associate provost. In her new role, Carlsen will continue to serve as chair of the University Academic Council (UAC), a role she has held since 2018, as well as in leadership capacities on the University Planning Committee, the Advancement of Student Learning Council, and the faculty conference steering committee. Carlsen is also professor of Hispanic studies in the International Studies and Languages Division of Seaver College, where she teaches Latin American literature and culture. Her research explores contemporary Latin American literature in its social and historical contexts.
